Girls tennis roundup: WW South, Huntley, Stevenson among conference tournament winners

Most conferences held their girls tennis tournaments late last week as they get ready for the stretch run of the season that includes sectional tournaments this weekend and the state tournament next week.

Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the conference tournaments.

DUPAGE VALLEY

Naperville North and Neuqua Valley tied for the conference championship with 35 points each. Naperville Central was just a half point back in third place in one of the tightest conference tourneys.

Neuqua Valley claimed 3 of the 4 doubles title with No. 1 Sofia Chiou-Kyle Tran, third doubles Lauren Varak-Mehar Kaur and fourth doubles Jillian Hearld-Lillian Rentmeester all stepping into the winners circle.

Naperville North's Anda Elezi won at second singles.

Naperville Central senior Sofia Olaru won her fourth straight No. 1 singles title while teammate Megan Moreno won the title at third singles.

Metea Valley, which was fourth with 28.5 points, got a first place effort from second doubles Aarna Raghavapudi-Leah Liu.

Waubonsie Valley, fifth with 24.5 points, got runner-up efforts from Chloe Cochran at second singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Sophia Parranto-Revo Rao.

DUKANE

Wheaton Warrenville South won all 3 singles and took home top honors in three of four doubles events. That was good enough for the Tigers to score 85 points and win the DuKane Conference championship. Batavia was a distant second with 57.

For coach Patti Clousing's troops, Brooke and Anna Ittersagen claimed top honors at No. 1 and 2 respectively, and Kelsey Clousing placed first at third singles.

In doubles, Riley and Reese Lepsi won at No. 1, Kaley McCabe-Lauren Morton claimed top honors at No. 2 and Claire Brand-Priya Rozanski at third doubles.

The fourth doubles team of Claire Nelson-Mae Haas took fourth.

Batavia's Sarah Buckert-Alex Angelov grabbed top honors at fourth doubles. In singles action, Julia Arulanda (No. 1) and Claire Anderson (No. 2) placed second. In doubles, Casey O Brien-Emma Larson (No. 1) and Ainsley Steinys-Izzy Witt (No. 2) were third.

Wheaton North placed third with 52 points. The Falcons had three second-place efforts in doubles: No. 2 Saede Berner-Jelena Krstic, No. 3 Sonia Oleniczak-Julia Russel and No. 4 Rose Hama-Rasheed-Elle Postma. The Falcons’ top doubles team of Shannon Phillips-Stella Tarusha took fourth.

St. Charles East was fourth with 45 points led by Zoe Hermann taking second at No. 3 singles. Kelsey Jacobs (No. 1) and Camilla Lopez (No. 2) placed third.

Third doubles Trinity Tecson-Lea Forsell and fourth doubles Layla Sutaria-Haley Griffin finished third. Alex Nagel-Sawyer Kannakan took fourth at second doubles.

St. Charles North placed fifth with 39 points.

Aria Bhate placed third at No. 3 singles while Danielle Dejanovich (1) and Maddie Zubel (2) placed fourth.

St. Charles North's Reese Thomas-Shannon Lu were second at No. 1 doubles.

Geneva got a fourth-place effort from Alyssa Spring-Ava Zubel at third doubles. Glenbard North's Angela Costuna was fourth at third singles.

EAST SUBURBAN CATHOLIC

Host Benet placed first in four of five brackets in winning the East Suburban Catholic championship with 63 points. Marist was second with 47 points.

in singles action, Lily Lopatka claimed the No. 2 singles title while Meredith Converse was runner-up at No. 1 singles.

Doubles titles came from Shane Delaney-Claire Lopatka (No. 1), Natalie Grover- Katie Jendra (No. 2) and Meaghan McCarthy-Hannah Bobofchak (No. 3).

Carmel Catholic was fourth with 39 points. Gretta Leedy was second at No. 2 singles for the Corsairs. Mollie Nettersheim-Madie Syslie took third at No. 2 doubles and Caroline Molnar-Angela Coe were fourth at third doubles.

St. Viator, fifth with 17 points, got a third-place effort from Nicole Farry at No. 2 singles. The second doubles team of Ainslie McKenna-Chloe Weaver finished fourth at second doubles.

FOX VALLEY

Huntley dominated the Fox Valley Conference, winning all seven flights in the FVC meet hosted by Crystal Lake Central. Huntley scored 61 points to claim the top prize. Cary-Grove was second with 49 points.

"We were the best team in the regular season but there is more pressure and intensity in the conference tournament," said Huntley coach Barry Wells. “I am very proud of this group."

Number 1 seeds Ella Doughty and Gia Patel claimed championships at first and second singles, respectively. At third singles, second-seeded Trinity Nguyen upset top-seeded Ella Stawarz of Cary-Grove, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, seniors Carlie Weishar-Katie Burkey won their second straight FVC No. 1 doubles title. Weishar and Burkey were state qualifiers a year ago.

The Red Raiders won second (Julie Klocker-Ari Patel), third (Shea Nagle-Vinathia Depala) and fourth doubles (Sara Willis-Giuli Faraj).

The runner-up Trojans got second-place efforts from Malaina Kurth (second singles), and Stawarz. The No. 2 doubles team Ellie Mjanes-Megan Ptaszek finished second, as did fourth doubles Taylor Hamann and Hannah Blumer.

The top doubles team for C-G which consisted of Aubrey Lonegran and Katie Groos, and the third doubles team of Michaela Fink and Ava Bogner both took third.

Led by third-place efforts in singles play by No. 2 Riley Sturm and No. 3 Hannah Koh, Crystal Lake South took fifth with 33 points.

Hampshire got a third-place finish by Isabella Kowalek at No. 1 singles and Hannah Mudge of Jacobs was fourth at third singles.

Dundee-Crown's first doubles team of Sasha Bozovic and Mackenna Fernstrom finished fourth.

GCAC

Aurora Central Catholic with two first-place efforts and three seconds claimed top honors at the GCAC tournament with 24 points.

Sophia Reinbold won second singles as did the No. 2 doubles team of Nola Hollenbaugh-Kamryn Hollubetz.

Runner-ups were Allison Fosco at singles, Grace Ginnochi-Natalie Smith at second doubles and Madelyn Torrance-Aime Acosta at third doubles.

Rosary's Liv Ketterman-Maggie Lagman captured the first doubles title. The Royals were third with 11 points.

MSL

Conant coach Matt Marks’ squad captured 6 of the meet’s 7 flight championships en route to 61 points and the first outright MSL title in program history.

Barrington (46 points), which shared the league championship with Conant last fall, and MSL East champion Prospect (36 points) tied for runner-up honors based on their regular-season finishes and points accrued at the MSL meet.

Fremd took fourth, followed by Buffalo Grove (5th-place tie), Hersey (5th-place tie), Rolling Meadows (7th-place tie), Schaumburg (7th-place tie), Palatine, Elk Grove, Hoffman Estates and Wheeling.

Conant senior ace Katie Strilich beat Rolling Meadows freshman and third-seeded Maddie Hrtanek in the title match at No. 1 singles.

Conant also received flight championships from freshman Elyssa Rojas Kantcheva (No. 2 singles), freshman Raina Maranan (No. 3 singles), sophomores Nidhi Karekar/Advita Deepak (No. 1 doubles), Khrystyna Pivtorak/Noelle Koh (No. 2 doubles) and Dhruvi Jain/Avery Kestner (No. 4 doubles).

NORTHERN LAKE COUNTY

Grayslake Central won the NLCC with 42 points.

The Rams won the third singles title with Leela Roberts, third doubles with Lauren Chaney-Josie Bruce, and fourth doubles of Peyton Hoffman-Lily Desino.

Runner-up performances came from Bella Fedor at first singles and Kate Wondrasek at second singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Kaitlynn Faust-Mosie Drevline were third and top doubles team of Abbey Twaddle and Mallory Barrows were fourth.

"It was a great team effort by our team," said coach Charles Lawson.

Grayslake North was second with 37 points led by Bria Pagac won the second singles title while third singles Jenna Caja and the No. 1 doubles team of Anya Dinkla-Maddy Porter placed second. Robyn George was third at No. 1 singles.

Wauconda finished third with 35. Tessa Davis won the number 1 singles championship. Three doubles teams took second: No. 2 Raegen Mohr-Ella Ciaburri, No. 3 Kelsey Magdan-Kara Harris, and No. 4 Reese Chipchase-Kassidy Pickup.

Grant placed fourth with 28 points. Sophie Leichuk was third at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Angelina Vavalle-Vani Patel took third.

For Lakes, fifth with 26 points, Haley Easterburg-Kaylee Anderson won the conference title at No. 1 doubles and Charlotte Romig-Ava Price were third at No. 3 doubles.

Sixth-place Antioch was led by Ailey Carley, third at No. 3 singles, and Aubrey Dickey, fourth at No. 1 singles.

NORTH SUBURBAN

Stevenson won the North Suburban title hosted by Warren with 51 points.

Champions for the Patriots include Kriti Mohan (No. 2 singles) and Emma Iwanowski (No. 3 singles). The Pats won No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 doubles — Emma Blass-Ana Sukovic, Sasha Baer-Sona Surya and Maggie Kuang-Maria Berezavchuk, respectively

The top singles team of Abby Ma-Sophia Shlyakhta were second.

Libertyville was third with 36 points. At No. 1 doubles, Lena and Yuki Dogadawlski claimed top honors.

Lake Zurich placed fourth with 32 points. For the Bears, Katrine Boianov (No. 1) and Lora Boianov (No. 2) each placed second.

UPSTATE EIGHT CONFERENCE

Glenbard South was second with 47 points behind champion Riverside-Brookfield (52) in the Upstate Eight’s East division.

For the runner-up Raiders, Emily Zeikus claimed the top singles title. At No. 3 singles, Allie Rupp was second.

In doubles action, No. 1 Lucy Mohorovic-Natalie Buhle placed first, as did No. 3 Anesa Maloku-Rylee DePorter.

Finishing third were Gigi Mohorovic-Tess Robbins at No. 2 and Emerson Stern-Briana Briana Coppolino at No. 4.

West Chicago was fourth with 25.5 points led by Julia Koput taking second at second singles. Elaina Velasco was third at first singles, and Isabella Deguzman placed fourth at third singles. In doubles, Addison Jefferey-Brianna Duran were fourth at No. 1.

Glenbard East's top finish came from Maguire Keating-Aubrey Tragasz who were second at fourth doubles. Abby Leahy-Marija Cheeks were fourth at second doubles.

Fenton's Victoria Sosha was third at No. 2 singles.

In the West Division, West Aurora placed first with 61 points followed by Bartlett with 46 points.

Two of the Blackhawks’ doubles teams took first, Ellie Hartman-Alyssa Falcone at No. 2 and the fourth doubles team of Mia Kerns-Katelin Cook. The No. 1 doubles team of Alyssa Fowler-Zoe Arsenau finished second.

Bartlett's Dhanvi Dhandapari-Sabikah Musabji were first at No. 1 doubles and the second doubles team of Rohini Silwa-Aarushu Mehta and fourth doubles team of Shriya Patel-Mary Ann Ghani were second.

First singles Suhani Patel and third singles Karla Flores were third.

WEST SUBURBAN CONFERENCE SILVER

Hinsdale Central won five of seven brackets to win the West Suburban Silver Conference title with 46 points Saturday at Lyons Township.

The Red Devils got conference titles from singles players Aasha Sarai at No. 2 and Sarah Quevado at No. 3; first singles Kotryna Tomas was second.

In doubles, championships came from Sydney Shuster-Ava Virmani (2), Gia Kapur-Anika Sarai (3) and Jordan Baker-Julianna Radonjic (4) while the top doubles team of Lauren Panveno and Sophia Virmani placed second.

York, behind a championship from the top doubles team of CJ Coan and Josie Coan, placed fourth with 27 points.
