Lake County coroner identifies Libertyville crash victim
A 77-year-old Mundelein man was identified as the victim in a fatal three-vehicle crash Friday in Libertyville.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said Neal Raffeld was the driver of a NAPA Auto Parts that was struck by a UPS truck in the intersection of Winchester and Butterfield roads in Libertyville late Friday morning.
Police said Raffeld’s van was stopped at a stoplight just before 11:45 a.m. when it entered the intersection for unknown reasons and was struck by the truck. An SUV was also involved in the crash, police noted.
Raffeld was transported to a hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy Monday revealed Raffeld died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
