Aurora man killed in single-vehicle crash in Geneva

A 31-year-old Aurora man was killed early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Geneva, authorities said.

Carlos Diaz Jr. was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado west on Fabyan Parkway shortly before 5 a.m. when it veered across eastbound lanes and went off the roadway before the foot of the Fox River bridge near Route 25, according to Geneva police.

Diaz was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was located on the south side of the bridge embankment by Geneva and Batavia police officers called to the scene along with members of the Batavia Fire Department, officials said.

The Fabyan Parkway bridge was closed while the Geneva Police Department, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Coroner’s Office investigated. The roadway was reopened by 9 a.m.

The coroner’s office will be performing an autopsy, police said.
