Grammy Award winner Michael Rodriguez to perform at ‘Art of Jazz’
College of Lake County music presents its fall “Art of Jazz” offering with a celebrated guest artist, jazz musician Michael Rodriguez, offering a rare treat to both learn from and witness the diverse talents of this Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer. Rodriguez headlines the 48th Annual “Art of Jazz” concert 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, on the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts mainstage with the CLC Jazz Ensembles.
“The CLC jazz program is proud to welcome Michael Rodriguez, a world-class trumpeter, improviser and composer,” said Michael Flack, director of the Monday Night Jazz Ensemble. “His trumpet technique and inventive improvisational ideas are unparalleled, and his ability to create memorable musical moments is unmatched.”
A regaled collaborator, Rodriguez has performed and toured with Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Jon Faddis and The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Harry Connick Jr., Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and The Spanish Heart Band and the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra, among many others. In addition to a solo recording, he has released five albums with his brother, pianist/composer Robert Rodriguez. As an educator, he travels around the globe as a clinician and serves on the faculty at both Juilliard and New York University.
Tickets for the concert performance are $8 for the general public and $7 for CLC students, seniors and military. Rodriguez will also present a free master class open to the public at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in room P101 of the JLC.
