Fire at vacant Grayslake home under investigation

No injuries were reported after a fire Saturday night caused an estimated $125,000 in damage to a vacant home in Grayslake.

The Grayslake Fire District responded at 9:55 p.m. to the fire in 400 block of Lake Street, officials said. Firefighters saw fire coming from the soffit area of the roof at the one-story, single-family residence.

Crews extinguished the fire on the outside of the building, but found it had spread to the attic. Fire officials said the home had multiple roof additions, which made locating and extinguishing the fire more difficult.

The fire was put out at approximately 11 p.m.

Grayslake crews were assisted by firefighters from Round Lake, Gurnee, Lake Villa, Libertyville, Newport, Countryside, Fox Lake, Wauconda and Spring Grove, officials said. Station coverage was provided by Antioch, Waukegan, Long Grove and Wheeling.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
