Dining out: Stan’s Donuts and Ghirardelli collab, candlelight dinner and more

Some favorite names from the world of sweet treats are teaming up to make the holiday season more chocolaty. And minty. You can also take a well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season with a mellow meal at Niche, while Lazy Dog restaurants have an offer for holiday fun that helps Habitat for Humanity.

Collab take one

Stan’s Donuts & Coffee is teaming up with Ghirardelli to ramp up the chocolaty goodness in their classic drink offerings like mochas and hot chocolates, as well as seasonal drinks for a limited time.

Until Dec. 31 you can enjoy returning holiday favorites Mint Mocha and Mint Hot Chocolate, as well as their new Mint Chocolate Lightning, an iced drink with Stan’s cold brew mixed with Ghirardelli chocolate milk and a hint of mint.

Collab take two

Speaking of chocolate, mints and collaborations, Duck Donuts is offering a limited-time lineup of doughnuts and drinks featuring Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie crumbles.

The “Mint to Be” dozen and half-dozen boxes feature combinations of four doughnuts: Vanilla Thin Mints Dream, Holiday Swirl, Thin Mints Crunch and Choco-Mint.

Their holiday beverage offerings include the Thin Mints Milkshake and the very merry Peppermint Mocha, available iced or hot.

Dinner by candlelight

Niche in Geneva has a mellow way for you to celebrate the season with its annual candlelight dinner Wednesday, Dec. 11. The $125 four-course menu features an optional wine pairing with each dish for an extra $50. The evening starts with duck confit zeppole, followed by smoked fjord trout rillettes. The entrée is veal osso buco with burnt celery root risotto. The dinner ends with chestnut opera torte for dessert. Reservations are available exclusively at (630) 262-1000.

Gifts that give back

Lazy Dog restaurants are offering DIY holiday gingerbread house kits, with 100% of the net proceeds of kits sold going to Habitat for Humanity. The $7.50 kits are available until Dec. 31 at all Lazy Dog locations, or can be purchased on the website in bundles of four for $30, plus shipping. They have suburban restaurants in Naperville, Northbrook, Oak Brook and Vernon Hills.
