Man detained pretrial on gun charge in DuPage County
Pretrial release was denied Wednesday for a man facing a gun charge in DuPage County.
Daniel Medina-Guerrero, 27, of the 6300 block of North Campbell Street in Chicago, is charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and several misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, authorities said.
According to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, Elmhurst detectives were watching the parking lot of a sorting center in the 600 block of West Lake Street around 3:30 p.m. Monday, waiting for Medina-Guerrero to show up for work. He was suspected in a fleeing-and-eluding case that happened Dec. 15.
On Monday, Medina-Guerrero drove to the Lake location, got out and was taken into custody. According to authorities, they found a loaded SAR-9 9 mm handgun underneath the driver’s seat. The gun had been reported stolen in Dayton, Ohio in January 2023, authorities said.
A prosecutor’s petition for pretrial detention said Medina-Guerrero had been convicted on a 2018 charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and three cases of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon charged in 2020 and 2021.
In the current case, he also is charged with driving an uninsured vehicle, driving while his license is revoked, improper use of registration or a license plate and driving without a license plate.
