Methodists to honor MLK’s legacy Jan. 19 at Downers Grove church

United Methodists of the Northern Illinois Conference will honor the memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. with a program on Sunday, Jan. 19.

The community is invited to this event at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove. A free dinner will follow the program. Admission and parking are free.

The Rev. Danita R. Anderson, Northern Illinois Conference assistant to Bishop Dan Schwerin, will speak on “The Unfinished Agenda.” Rev. Schwerin, Northern Illinois-Wisconsin Episcopal Area bishop, will offer remarks. Several church choirs will perform.

In the over 50 years since the death of the civil rights activist, Northern Illinois Conference United Methodists have gathered annually to honor his memory and recommit to his vision of the beloved community.
