Small fire at former Haeger Potteries building

There was a small fire Thursday morning in the main building at the former Haeger Potteries factory in East Dundee.

Nobody was hurt, according to a press release from the East Dundee Fire Protection District.

The fire happened around 10:52 a.m. Firefighters found an unattended fire.

Due to the amount of smoke and because they thought homeless people might be in the building, additional firefighters were called in to search the building.

Haeger Potteries closed in 2016. The village of East Dundee now owns the site, located at 7 Maiden Lane.

On Monday night, the village board agreed to start negotiating a $76 million redevelopment plan to build rental townhouses and apartments on the site.
