Basketball roundup: Jaimes, Grayslake Central close in on conference crown
Grayslake Central had double the fun Tuesday in Grayslake.
The Rams had four players in double figures as they took another step closer to capturing the Northern Lake County Conference by rolling past Grant 61-40.
Chris Jaimes led Grayslake Central (19-9, 10-2) with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Alex Granville chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds and 4 steals while Cole Halverson also had 12 points and Eric Brom 10 points.
Grant (14-11, 7-5) was led by Damarrion Smith with 11 points, Braylon Gray with 9 points and Charles Schlicht with 7 points.
Antioch 55, Lakes 45: Antioch (13-13, 9-3) kept its NLCC title hopes alive by pulling away in the fourth quarter for the victory. The Sequoits, who led 37-33 after three quarters, broke free behind Jason Lee, who had 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter. Lee also had 13 rebounds while Teddi Wetu had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Manasseh Safeh led Lakes (7-18, 4-8) with 11 points while Carson Norris had 9 points.
Grayslake North 54, North Chicago 49: Bradley Ballentine had 20 points, Tyler Morgan 11 points and Jared Van Donselaar 8 points for the Knights (16-12, 8-4).
Stevenson 72, Zion-Benton 43: Rocco Pagliocca and Donny Williams each scored 16 points as the Patriots (19-8, 10-2) remained alone atop the North Suburban Conference. Aidan Bardic had 14 points and 8 assists while Atticus Richmond had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Warren 61, Lake Zurich 40: Warren (19-9, 7-5) picked up the win as Jaxson Davis had 14 points, Jack Wolf 12 points, Owen Squires 9 points and Braylon Walker 7 points. Adrian Riep led Lake Zurich (13-15, 5-7) with 15 points while Kain Kretschmar had 7 points.
Lake Forest 26, Libertyville 23: In a very low scoring affair, the Scouts (18-8, 8-4) held off Libertyville (14-12, 4-8).
Rolling Meadows 61, Glenbrook North 41: Rolling Meadows (23-4) rebounded from their tough loss Saturday to Lake Forest to roll in Northbrook. Ian Miletic led the way with 21 points, Ryan Meyer had 9 points on a trio of threes while Laza Lazarevic added 8 points.
Schaumburg 55, Elmwood Park 30: The Saxons (20-9) picked up their 20th win of the season behind Jordan Tunis’ 20 points. Zion Young chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds.
Hoffman Estates 63, Maine East 60, OT: Hoffman Estates had to go overtime to pick up their 20th win. Joey Hernandez knocked down a three-pointer to force overtime while Nate Cleveland had a basket and a free throw in the final six seconds to clinch the win. Daiquan Danield led the Hawks with 23 points and 9 rebounds, Hernadez had 11 points and 7 steals, Torey Baskin added 7 points and 6 rebounds, Cleveland had 7 points and 11 rebounds and Christopher Mobley 6 points.
Maine South 69, Niles West 54: Rico D'Alessandro with 27 points and Panayiotis Sotos with 24 points led the Hawks (13-15) in Park Ridge.
Hinsdale Central 69, Prospect 64: Prospect (12-15) went on the road and gave the Red Devils (27-2) everything they could handle but came up a bit short. Ben Schneider led Prospect with 28 points while Ryan Lifton had 22 points.
St. Viator 58, Taft 38: The Lions (21-8) went down the Kennedy and posted a big win. Dawson Charles had 14 points and Henry Marshall 12 points for St. Viator.

Rolling Meadows 38, Palatine 28: Rolling Meadows (20-8) picked up their 20th win of the season by holding off Palatine (15-16). Abby Ramel led the charge for the Mustangs with 24 points and 8 rebounds while Dalia Grandberry had 6 points.
Conant 45, Buffalo Grove 31: Conant (14-14) broke it open in the second quarter as Annabel Danso had 16 points, Gianna Fresso 14 points and Kanna Bradarich 10 points. Buffalo Grove (12-18) was led by Olivia Hills who had 13 points and Hannah Weber’s 8 points.
Hersey 61, Barrington 36: Hersey (19-9) opened strong with a 19-8 first quarter and rolled to the win. Kate Donovan led the Huskies with 19 points, Sadie Marks had 18 points and Maddy Drury 7 points. Barrington (14-16) was led by Ashley Mahlum who had 16 points while Maddie Anderle and Lily Richmond each had 6 points.
Schaumburg 43, Elk Grove 41: Schaumburg (8-21) was led by Kaya Pekala who had 13 points, Olivia Dudek with 7 points and Emma Grossman and Martha White with 6 points. Elk Grove (4-27) was led by Zariela Myles and Caroline Hadler, who each had 7 points.
