Pretrial release denied for man facing gun charge
Pretrial release was denied on Wednesday for a felon accused of having a loaded handgun in Oak Brook.
Joshua Griffin, 31, of the 500 block of North Third Avenue, Villa Park, is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender, a Class X felony.
He is also charged with misdemeanor unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver.
Oak Brook police stopped a vehicle, which they say was driven by Griffin, around 12:16 a.m. Wednesday at 22nd Street and Park View Drive. They say it had suspended license plates.
An officer reported smelling the odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle. Officers say they found a loaded Taurus .40-caliber handgun in the glovebox.
According to a petition for pretrial detention, DuPage County court records, Griffin has felony convictions for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, residential burglary, and indecent solicitation of a child.
If convicted of the felony, Griffin faces a sentence of six to 30 years in prison.
