Palatine approves charging stations at Deer Grove Centre
When Palatine approved construction of Deer Grove Centre on Dundee Road near Rand Road in 1995, vehicle charging stations were not part of the developer’s vision.
Times have changed, and the Palatine village council approved four dual-use electric vehicle charging stations within the shopping center’s parking lot at Monday’s meeting.
The stations will stand in the interior parking lot, within the parking spaces north of Hobby Lobby and adjacent to the curbed drive aisle and access drive.
There will be eight parking spaces for vehicles to charge.
Palatine Director of Planning and Zoning Ben Vyverberg said the center has an easement agreement with Target and the outlots along Dundee Road, which include Chipotle, Jersey Mike’s, AT&T and Starbucks. Target has approved the vehicle charging location.
Customers will be charged by the kilowatt, Vyverberg said.
