Temporary Buffalo Grove fire station up and running

Operations began this week at the temporary fire station relocated to Buffalo Grove’s former public works building at 51 Raupp Boulevard.

It is being used while Fire Station 25 at 505 W. Dundee Road is undergoing demolition and reconstruction.

“There will be no interruption in our service levels,” Fire Chief Larry Kane told the village board Monday.

He also reassured the public.

“We're not abandoning you,” he said. “We have just moved to a new location while we do some construction here.”

He said the old public works garage area will be used for storage. The facility was also remodeled for a living area, a kitchen, locker rooms and sleeping quarters, in addition to areas for equipment and maintenance.

As for Fire Station 25, the village is getting ready for demolition. That includes awarding a bid for the work.

Demolition is expected to take place in April or May. Construction is slated to begin in June on the new station, which should be complete by August or September 2026.

Kane said there will be no negative service impacts during the construction.

Station 25 was built in the mid-1970s. Staffing increases and the modernization of vehicles have resulted in the fire department outgrowing the facility.

The village said the rebuild will carry a price tag of $10.5 million to $11 million.
