Des Plaines mayor highlights fiscal responsibility, economic growth during address to business
Mayor Andrew Goczkowski delivered his fourth address to the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce on March 6, emphasizing the city’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and economic growth.
Goczkowski highlighted Des Plaines' strong financial record, noting that the city has maintained an average property tax levy increase of less than 1% per year over the past decade, with no increase in the previous year. The mayor highlighted a significant debt reduction, with general obligation debt decreasing from $76 million in 2009 to just $4.9 million today.
This fiscal responsibility has enabled the city to invest in important projects, such as acquiring the historic White Bank Building in downtown Des Plaines. In partnership with the operator of Foxtail on the Lake, the building will be transformed into a new restaurant. This initiative is expected to attract more businesses to the area.
Goczkowski praised the city's economic development, noting the arrival of several new businesses in 2024, including Galaxy Hot Pot and Grill Restaurant in the downtown and more than a dozen new businesses. He emphasized the importance of the Chamber of Commerce in promoting business growth and highlighted the city's support through Business Assistance Grants.
The mayor also discussed infrastructure, including the construction of a new police station and upgrades to existing facilities, stating these investments are vital for maintaining quality of life and promoting economic growth.
The mayor expressed gratitude for community partnerships and is eager to continue collaborative efforts to revitalize and redefine Des Plaines for future generations.
