More than 100 alumni performers to join current D23 musicians on stage at 75th anniversary concert March 14 at Hersey

The local community is invited to attend a celebratory concert on Friday, March 14, in honor of the rich history and legacy of Prospect Heights School District 23’s Vocal Instrument and Music program, which originated 75 years ago.

The 75th anniversary concert is at 6 p.m. in the Hersey High School Gymnasium and will include special performances featuring more than 100 D23 alumni who participated in district music programs over the years. The concert also will feature performances by each of the current Anne Sullivan Elementary and MacArthur Middle School musical groups.

The D23 anniversary concert is free and no tickets are required.

Izabella Gieron, MacArthur and Sullivan orchestra director, says a wide variety of alumni have answered the call for participants over the past several months. She says the alumni groups (orchestra, band and chorus) will be made up of graduates from the past 50 years, going all the way back to 1974.

The concert will include an opportunity for all current and former D23 musicians to perform together on stage. The evening also will feature recognition of students and music educators who have taught in the district over the years.

“This concert will be an unforgettable evening filled with exceptional performances and cherished memories,” Gieron said. “We will celebrate our rich musical heritage, as well as rekindle connections and foster a sense of community among generations of musicians.”

She added that the district is proud of the talent that has emerged from its music programs over the years.

“We look forward to this unique opportunity to showcase the collective achievements of our current students and our alumni.”
