Why are you running for this office? Is there a particular issue that motivates you?
As my children have been enrolled for the past 15 years within the Winfield School District, I have witnessed many positive things, yet seeing room to improve. Our school is a place for learning and growth and I will work to uphold these values. This includes fiscal responsibility.
What is the role of the school board in setting and monitoring the curriculum?
The role is to set appropriate and challenging curriculum that encourages student academic growth and development.
Are there curriculum issues within the district that you feel need particular attention from the board?
Math and reading have faced challenges. I will work with administration and teachers to remain focused on priorities toward improvement in these areas and others.
How do you view your role in confronting policy or curriculum controversies: provide leadership even if unpopular, give a voice to constituents — even ones with whom you disagree, or defer to state authorities?
Each problem requires its own analysis and flexibility.
Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach an agreement and manage school district policy? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions for your school board.
I've worked in group settings and both my personal and professional life.
What is your assessment of the school district's diversity and equity efforts? Do you support the continuation or enhancement of such programs, of would you rather see them diminished. Please explain your reasoning.
Winfield school district has been and will continue to be a supportive and inclusive school district.
What makes you the best candidate for the job?
I have had three children in the school district for 15 consecutive years which provides me with a unique position to perform this critical work.
What’s one good idea you have to better your district that no one is talking about yet?
One area not discussed enough is fiscal responsibly.
