83-year-old driver killed in Mount Prospect crash

An 83-year-old Mount Prospect man died Monday after the SUV he was driving collided with another vehicle on the village’s east side.

Victor Gallardo Lebron was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where was taken after the crash at Wolf Road and Thayer Street, Mount Prospect police said.

According to police, officers called to the scene at 6:36 p.m. found Gallardo Lebron unresponsive and not breathing inside a Chrysler SUV on the east parkway of Wolf Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed Gallardo Lebron was driving east on Thayer Street when he pulled out to make a left turn onto Wolf Road, police said. A Mercedes-Benz sedan traveling south on Wolf then struck the driver’s side of Gallardo Lebron’s vehicle, according to police.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 21-year-old Des Plaines man, was not injured, police said.

Wolf Road was closed until shortly after midnight Tuesday while police investigated the scene.

The Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, continue to investigate.
