Resident injured escaping house fire in Fox Lake

Fox Lake Fire Protection District officials said a resident who requires use of a wheelchair suffered an injury to her foot escaping a late-night house fire Tuesday.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment shortly after firefighters and paramedics arrived around 11 p.m.

It took nearly 20 minutes to extinguish the fire inside the two-story, single family home on the 0-100 block of Lawrence Avenue in Fox Lake, fire officials said.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials believe it started in the living room.

Damage was estimated at about $50,000; the house was left uninhabitable.
