County needs funds from referendum
We urge you to support the Kane County referendum to approve a 0.75% sales tax for public safety.
This tax does not apply to daily necessities like food or prescription medicines, nor does it apply to big ticket items like cars or trucks. People purchasing items covered by this tax, whether they live in Kane County or elsewhere, would pay only an additional 75 cents per 100 dollars spent, a relatively modest sum, yet this revenue would make a huge difference in public safety.
The additional sales tax revenue would be dedicated exclusively to public safety, including funding for Kane County’s sheriff’s office, state’s attorney’s office, coroner’s office and judiciary.
Kane County got a respite through COVID monies, but those monies are about gone. Costs have risen; tax rates for the county have remained stable except for one cost of living increase. Our county needs an increase in funding to maintain our service levels or we will soon run out of money and be forced to cut programs that will ultimately affect the safety of our community.
Voters, please weigh your legitimate lack of enthusiasm to pay even another penny with the very real needs we face. Maintaining public safety maintains the quality of life that drew so many of us here.
