Lake County Chamber of Commerce at City of Hope for 110th anniversary

Representatives from some of the oldest standing Lake County businesses like Abbott Laboratories, along with some of the newest like American Place Casino, came together this recently to honor a network that’s tied all of them together. The Lake County Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 110th anniversary Wednesday, March 19, at one of the country’s top cancer and research centers, City of Hope, in Zion.

“I am incredibly honored and moved to have so many impressive business leaders from Lake County in this room today,” City of Hope Chicago President Pete Govorchin said.

Lake County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shaunese Teamer showcased a video of photos dating back to 1915 when the chamber first got its start, supporting business growth and development through the years. Teamer said in preparation for the event, they found business cards over the years; the oldest was from Abbott Laboratories. Teamer joked about why it may seem unusual to be celebrating a 110th anniversary.

“Why have an anniversary party at the 110th? I would say why not have a party? We like parties. When you think about everything we went through in 2020 you know when everything was closing down. It’s wonderful to have an opportunity to celebrate so 110 definitely made a wonderful year,” Teamer said.
