Board can be beacon of collaboration

On April 1, Palatine Township voters have the opportunity to establish a Community Mental Health Board and enhance local services for countless residents. CMHBs have a proven track record of success in the northwest suburbs, including long-standing boards like in Hanover Township and newly established boards like in Schaumburg Township.

With mandatory needs assessments, CMHBs ensure well-informed investments in services related to mental health, developmental disabilities and substance use disorders. The impact on a resident’s tax bill is quite low and a volunteer board increases accountability and agency cooperation to ensure every dollar is maximized and stays local. This makes a community stronger and provides lifesaving care to your friends, family and neighbors who would otherwise not be able to access it due to cost, access and availability of services.

Schaumburg Township’s CMHB is composed of dedicated volunteers with varying political affiliations and it has been a beacon of collaborative spirit. We have united with a shared vision of compassionate care and tangible improvements have been made in a short time. A little money really can go a long way. I urge you to vote yes for the Palatine Township Community Mental Health Board Referendum on April 1.
