‘Edgy’ Tim: Abrams on football recruiting trail after healing up
Cary-Grove junior athlete Logan Abrams (6-foot-3, 230 pounds) has been dealing with an offseason filled with rehabbing and recovery after having season-ending injury surgery in 2024.
Abrams checks in and recaps his latest recruiting news, where he stands in his rehab process and fills us in on his upcoming spring college visit plans.
“I'm fully cleared and I'm in the process of just getting back to where I need to be this spring,” Abrams said. “I feel really good these days and right now it's just all about working through everything and getting all of my speed and strength back.”
Abrams has some spring college visits planned.
“I'm going to Indiana on Saturday,” he said. “This is the second visit for me to Indiana and I've stayed in touch with the coaches this winter. I'm also going back to visit Toledo on Thursday of next week. Ball State and Kansas State have been reaching out and they both sent me camp invites. A lot of the college coaches all want me to stay in touch with them and just get to know me better. I'm hoping to get out to see more schools this spring and also possibly go to a few college camps this summer.”
Abrams knows this spring and summer will be very important for his recruiting stock.
“I was able to do a lot of work while I was out recovering from the injury including a ton of upper body work along with some limited lower body work as well,” he said. “My legs feel really good and stronger these days. All of the college coaches will be in school this spring and they all want to see how much I've been able to make progress this winter and I'm ready for that challenge.”
Jenkins up to 14 offers
Hersey junior athlete Brandon Jenkins (6-foot, 185 pounds), a three-star recruit as ranked by Rivals.com, has been one of the most in-demand names in the Class of 2026 so far this early spring. Jenkins, who holds 14 scholarship offers, breaks down his latest recruiting news.
“My recruiting has been going well and it's been pretty exciting,” Jenkins said. “I'm also staying busy these days with track and we have one more indoor meet then we move outside for the outdoor season.”
Jenkins filled us in on his upcoming spring college visit plans.
“I'm trying to sort everything out with my schedule and my track season but I have a few visits already set. I visited Michigan State last week along with Toledo and also Cincinnati. I'm also hoping to fit one more spring visit in and I'm looking at everything now and trying to find an open date. Besides the schools who have offered me, I'm also in touch with the coaches from Virginia the most so far this spring.”
Schools who are recruiting Jenkins project him playing at a few different positions at the college level.
“I'm getting looks and offers from schools at both running back along with cornerback,” he said. “A few of the college coaches like me on both sides of the football. Position really does not matter to me at all. I just want to play and help the team win. A lot of it will depend on the school and the program and what they need from me and just how well I fit into that school and that football program.”
Atkins visits NIU
West Aurora junior quarterback Mason Atkins (6-3, 190 pounds) breaks down his latest recruiting news, spring visit plans and more.
“I'm playing baseball again this spring for my school so we've just started the season,” Atkins said. “I'm also throwing for football and also training, plus I'm planning to make some spring practice visits over the next few weeks.”
Atkins made a recent practice visit to Northern Illinois University.
“I went to NIU for a visit a few weeks ago and I had a chance to meet the new coaches at NIU including new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Quinn Sanders,” he said.
Does he have any additional college visit plans?
“I went to visit Eastern Michigan this Friday for a practice,” he said. “On Tuesday I'm going to visit Iowa and then the following Tuesday I'm planning to visit Iowa State. I'm also set to visit Ball State on April 12th. I also made Junior Day visits back in the winter to both Iowa and Eastern Michigan.”
Atkins is preparing for a busy spring evaluation period in April.
“We had a lot of college coaches in school back in January and we are expecting even more coaches this spring. My coaches at school are already talking to different college coaches who are already setting up visit days.”
