Let’s be honest

with ourselves

Benjamin Franklin said that the Constitution would be served well for years and then collapse in despotism. One of the other Founding Fathers said that the worst thing would be for the people to get the government that they deserved. George Washington said that the formation of political parties would destroy democracy. Adolph Hitler said that most people, if given the grant of liberal freedom, would not know what to do with it

Dictatorship, in any form, is a conservative principle that works well to control people. Democracy is a liberal principle that is above, and not about, Democrat versus Republican. Democracy needs people to be intelligent, highly educated, free of mental health problems, honest, philosophical, and serving the welfare of society as the best way to serve individual needs. That is not the way people generally are.

Attacking liberalism may extend to attacking democracy and the right to vote. Donald Trump is not the first president to be accused of threatening democracy. There have been numerous. The president is not the real threat to democracy, nor is Congress. The real threat to democracy in the United States is the people. The people have the power to vote democracy, and the right to vote, out of existence. They can and they might. Once democracy is gone, it will not return without a war. As an old song goes, “You don’t know what you got ‘til it’s gone.”

Put political, religious, and other biased views aside for a moment. Take the blinders off. Think for yourself. Do not take anyone else’s opinion. Take a good, honest, objective look at everything that is happening right now and then decide what you think is going on. Write your decision to the Daily Herald. I look forward to reading everyone’s views.
