Challenger defeats 12-year incumbent in Palatine trustee race

With one notable exception, Northwest suburban Cook County voters returned incumbent village trustees to office according to Tuesday’s unofficial election results.

Barrington

With all precincts reporting in the race for three seats on the Barrington village board, two-term incumbent Jennifer Wondrasek appears to have won a third term with 902 votes.

She will be joined by 10-year village board veteran and fellow incumbent Todd Sholeen, who received 777 votes and challenger Lauren Klauer who received 686 votes. Former U.S. Army Reservist Jesse Rojo received 551 votes.

Inverness

With 100% of precincts reporting, Charles M. Fritz, Richard C. Gallagher and Timothy W. Tiedje have been elected Inverness trustees. Fritz received 792 votes, Gallagher received 756 votes and Tiedje received 720 votes.

Mount Prospect

Results are pending in the race for Mount Prospect village board, where two of the five candidates running for three open seats waged write-in campaigns.

Incumbents John Matuszak, a 12-year board veteran and Terri Gens, who is seeking a second term were on the ballot along with newcomer Beth DiPrima.

With all precincts reporting, Matuszak led with 4,646 votes. Gens received 4,531 votes and DiPrima received 4,398 votes.

Write-in candidates included Jack Brogan, a small-business owner and former Mount Prospect police sergeant, and Jeannie Lee-Macatangay.

Results are pending per the counting of write-in votes. All results are unofficial.

Palatine

Greg Langer, a fourth generation Palatine resident who serves as president of the Whytecliffe Homeowners Association, appears headed for victory in his race against Palatine village board incumbent Tim Millar to represent Palatine’s first district.

Unofficial results show Langer with 557 votes to 513 votes for Millar, a 12-year veteran of Palatine’s village board.

Langer criticized Palatine’s approach to economic development, saying the village should be more proactive in recruiting businesses and restaurants.

Prospect Heights

Prospect Heights Ward 2 incumbent Theresa A. Anderson appears to have won her race against challenger Alan Schneider, receiving 210 votes to Schneider’s 179.

South Barrington

With all precincts reporting Shahzad Kazi, a member of the South Barrington planning commission, is poised to win one of three 4-year terms on the South Barrington board of trustees with 508 votes. Village Clerk Daniel Zierk won his trustee race with 498 votes. Incumbent Joseph Abbate received 488 votes to claim the third seat.

Kanu Panchal, a 2022 board appointee, received 453 votes, Malik Khan received 438 votes and Madhusree (Maddy) Ghosh received 401 votes.
