Several school board battles unfolded in Northwest suburbs Tuesday

Among several school board races in the Northwest suburbs Tuesday, Barrington Unit District 220’s was one of the most contested with six candidates vying for four seats.

Incumbents Sandra Ficke-Bradford, Steve Wang, Katie Karam and Erin Chan Ding all appeared to be leading late in the evening, according to unofficial results. Their reelection bids were challenged by Harathi K. Srivastava and Deanna Stern.

Incomplete vote totals from the four counties showed 2,817 for Wang, 2,761 for Chan Ding, 2,647 for Ficke-Bradford, 2,566 for Karam, 2,554 for Srivastava and 2,447 for Stern.

District 21

Four incumbents and one newcomer vied for four seats on the Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 school board.

Arlen Gould, Bill Harrison, Debra McAtee and Phil Pritzker ran to reclaim their board seats and were challenged by Carrie Devitt, who proved to be the top vote-getter.

With all precincts reporting, vote totals were 3,313 for Devitt, 2,981 for Harrison, 2,825 for McAtee, 2,772 for Gould and 2,689 for Pritzker, who appeared to have lost his seat, according to unofficial results.

District 54

In Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54, challenger A’Seret Dokubo, who recently moved back to the district to raise her two children, faced and lost to a united front from incumbents Bob Kaplan, Jim Pye, Debbie Schmidt and Nicholas Scipione as they sought reelection.

With all 71 precincts reporting, unofficial vote totals showed 8,216 for Kaplan, 7,993 for Scipione, 7,141 for Pye, 6,889 for Schmidt, and 2,599 for Dokubo.

District 57

Mount Prospect Elementary District 57 was another place where six candidates were competing for four available seats. In contention Tuesday were Raymond Doerner, Eileen B. Kowalczyk, Pamela J. Nelson, Jennifer Ciok, Keith Shaffer and Rani Ganesan.

With all 20 precincts reporting, unofficial totals were 2,438 votes for Kowalczyk, 2,369 for Ciok, 2,162 for Nelson, and 1,579 for Doerner, who appeared to be the last to win a seat. Shaffer had 1,401 votes and Ganesan had 1,142.

District 207

In Park Ridge-based Maine Township High School District 207, five candidates ran for four 4-year terms. Jin Lee was the only incumbent in the contest; the other hopefuls were Dana Jaime, Kelly Foersterling, Rebecca Heneghan and Maureen Hartwig.

With all precincts reporting, unofficial results showed 10,302 votes for Heneghan, 9,458 for Foersterling, 9,242 for Hartwig, and 8,437 for Jaime. With 6,798 votes, Lee appeared to have lost his seat.

District 211

In Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211, vote totals were still pending due to the write-in campaigns of Violetta Fils of Hanover Park and Natasha Mucci of Palatine. The balloted candidates for three seats were Anne Lopez of Hanover Park, Jane Russell of Rolling Meadows and Kenneth Van Dyke of Roselle.
