Daily Herald photo contest winners for February 2025
Our February reader photo contest winners include both wintry landscapes and people having fun.
Kelley Dorner of Grayslake took first place with her photo of an ice formation that looked like a spilled salt shaker. She said it reminded her of the lyrics to Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville.”
“I think that this one looks like the ‘lost shaker of salt’ many have been seeking while wishing for a more tropical climate,” Dorner wrote. “It was so unique — I’d never seen anything like it. I love how the setting sun highlighted its shape and details, and the ice powder that seemingly spills out is the perfect touch.”
Sue Kowall of Hoffman Estates took second place with a photo of her granddaughter goofing around with a pair of spoons. Kowall writes, “I especially like this photo because of her smile. The color reflections on the silver spoons compliment the colors found on her dress.”
Randy Chapman of South Elgin came in third with a photo he took at a “Tough Mudder” event. He writes, “I love that these grown men were obviously having the time of their lives.”
In fourth place is Ken Olp of Wheaton with an icy view of the DuPage River. Olp writes, “I like this photo especially because of the ice formation and the animal tracks.”
