Naperville’s Our Saviour’s Lutheran welcomes all to Holy Week services

Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, offering both traditional and contemporary worship at two campuses in central Naperville, warmly invites the public to a variety of special Holy Week and Easter services.

On Maundy Thursday, April 17, at 12 and 7 p.m., the church will present a “Living Last Supper” retelling of Jesus’ final meal with his disciples. The service, which will take place at Our Saviour’s campus at 815 S. Washington St. in Naperville (next to Edward Hospital), will include an optional washing of hands or feet.

On Good Friday, April 18, Our Saviour’s presents its annual Good Friday CrossWalk, an interactive, families-oriented exploration of Jesus’ journey in Jerusalem. Special crafts, music and foods will be offered; children and their parents are invited to begin the indoor walk at 10:15, 10:45 or 11:15 a.m.

Also on April 18, a traditional Good Friday service will be offered at 7 p.m. Both CrossWalk and the Good Friday service will take place at Our Saviour’s 815 S. Washington St. campus.

Holy Saturday, April 19, will see the return of Our Saviour’s Easter vigil, which begins at 5 p.m. just outside the 815 S. Washington St. campus with prayer around a bonfire and proceeds inside for worship in the church’s sanctuary.

Easter Sunday services will take place March 20 at 7:30, 9 and 11:30 a.m. at the 815 S. Washington St. campus and at 10:15 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Celebration Campus, located at 919 S. Washington St. Our Saviour’s Sanctuary Choir, handbell choir and a brass ensemble will perform at the 9 a.m. service; the church’s children’s choir will perform during the 10:15 a.m. contemporary worship service.

Easter is “not just a story of what happened to Jesus,” says Our Saviour’s Senior Pastor Brian Wise. “It is the story of what God is still doing among us.” He adds: “Easter reminds us that God is still making all things new, bringing life where there was once death, showing up when all seems lost and saying, ‘Do not be afraid.’” All seekers, believers and questioners, whatever their faith background or lack thereof, always are welcome at Our Saviour’s, he notes.
