Kane County Clerk completes tax extension; tax bills available for online viewing later this month

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham announced that his office has certified the 2024 payable 2025 Tax Extension to the Kane County Treasurer’s Office.

Now that the clerk’s office has completed the tax extension, the Kane County Treasurer’s Office will have the necessary information to send out tax bills to Kane County property owners on time.

Cunningham added, “The process of tax extension and collection is a team effort. I am proud of my staff who worked carefully and diligently to complete our part of this important process. I want to thank the treasurer, the township assessors, county supervisor of assessments, local governments, and all staff for their hard work and cooperation throughout the year to assist in the tax extension completed by the clerk’s office. Each of those offices play a role in this process. We have built a team that works together to get the job done efficiently to benefit Kane County residents.”

For the 2024 tax year, Kane County has a total of 199,313 parcels, up from 198,912 last year. The total assessed value for all property in Kane County was $23,615,581,080, an increase of approximately 12% over the $21,065,507,385 total value of property in the county last year.

The county’s total tax extended this year was $1,674,410,488.78, or a 4.5% increase from the total of $1,602,641,424.68 last year.

Cunningham said, “The county clerk’s office extends taxes for nearly 300 taxing bodies, or local governmental units and special districts, in Kane County. Tax extension is an important part of the process because it helps provide the tax dollars necessary to pay for the education of our children, construction and maintenance of roads, police and fire protection, our judicial system, libraries, and parks. By completing this complicated but critically important job on time, we help to get this money to local governments on time. This money supports the local governments whose elected officials were just on the ballot in last week’s election.”

Property owners will be able to view tax bills online at kaneil.devnetwedge.com later this month.

The Kane County Clerk’s Office handles several different aspects regarding property taxes, including property tax extension for local governments; past tax searches; delinquent tax redemption; and annexations, disconnections, dissolutions and organization of taxing districts. The system implemented by the Clerk’s Office to calculate tax extensions has saved taxpayer dollars by reducing the time to process these functions and increase efficiency.
