Giddey expects to play against Miami despite hand injury
Josh Giddey missed the Bulls' final two regular season games with an injury to his right hand, but said he's good to go for Wednesday's play-in date with Miami.
“I'll be able to play through it,” Giddey said after Tuesday's practice at the Advocate Center. “I hope it's at a high level. It's just about managing the pain. We'll do everything we can tomorrow, today, tonight to reduce it as much as possible.”
The last time Giddey played in a game, he delivered arguably his best performance of the season against the Heat, finishing with 28 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks last week at the United Center. The Bulls went 3-0 against the Heat in the regular season.
He said the hand injury has been an issue since the all-star break in February. The muscle on the pinkie side of the hand is affected, which makes it difficult to protect during games.
“The medical staff has done a great job managing it as best we can,” Giddey said. “It's a really tough injury to pinpoint. I've had MRIs, X-rays, CT scans, so I've seen a lot of people about it. It's a really hard injury to heal while playing games. Obviously, it's something I'll address in the offseason. For now it's about pain management and playing through it.”
Coach Billy Donovan said forward Dalen Terry (right calf contusion) missed parts of Tuesday's practice, but should be available for the Miami game, Lonzo Ball (right wrist sprain) and Tre Jones (left foot sprain) are out.
