Fire causes significant damage to Round Lake home

Fire caused significant damage Monday evening to a single-family home in Round Lake, authorities said.

Firefighters called to the scene at about 7:15 p.m. arrived to find heavy flames coming from the rear and sides of a home on the 600 block of Nippersink Road, according to the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District.

Initial reports indicated the fire started on an outside deck and spread up the back wall and into the home.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, but due to heavy damage crews remained for three more hours to locate, extinguish and overhaul remaining hot spots.

The cause is being investigated but does not appear suspicious. A damage estimate was not available. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, according to the fire district, but no residents were injured.

Departments from Grayslake, Fox Lake, Wauconda, Libertyville, and Gurnee assisted at the scene and McHenry Township, Lake Zurich, and Antioch departments covered Round Lake's fire stations and responded to other calls while the fire was being fought.
