No injuries in Aurora warehouse fire after propane tank explodes

No one was injured Monday during a fire at a commercial warehouse in Aurora that started when a propane-powered forklift caught fire, causing the attached tank to explode.

According to a press release, the Aurora Fire Department responded on April 14 at about 4:45 p.m. to the 800 block of Enterprise Street.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the warehouse. The force of the propane tank explosion had blown out the overhead door in the rear of the building and dislodged several windows and a door at the front.

Firefighters entered the building and contained the blaze, which had spread to some warehouse stock. The building’s sprinkler system had activated before their arrival, helping keep the flames under control.

Four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and two chief officers responded to the scene.

All 11 people inside the building evacuated before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
