Glen Ellyn nonprofit launches spring pledge drive to help West Africa girls stay in school
International Neighbors Inc., a Glen Ellyn-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to developing the capabilities of nonprofits in West Africa, recently launched its “Spring Into Action” fundraising drive to support menstrual health education for students at rural public schools in Montserrado County, Liberia.
The campaign aims to raise money to fund a series of educational workshops and provide essential washable sanitary pads, underwear, and toiletries for at least 150 students.
The fund drive will run from April 15 to May 28, 2025, with an online donation option and end with a ribbon-cutting by Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce at the International Neighbors’ newly decorated offices on May 28 which is World Menstrual Health Day.
All contributions will go directly to the Liberian partner organization and its team of reproductive health educators.
“We are thrilled to kick off this drive as we strive to make a real difference in the lives of girls who miss school days due to lack of sanitary supplies and also lack knowledge that leads to unintended pregnancy,” said Herbert Hopkins, MSW, MPH, president of International Neighbors. “With the support of our community, we believe we can achieve our shared goal of keeping girls in school longer and creating a brighter future for them.”
Community members can support the drive by donating at international-neighbors.com/donate/. Corporate sponsorships and matching gifts are also encouraged.
