Naperville leaders partner with woman’s club to ‘Drop Everything and Read’
On April 12, the Naperville Woman’s Club’s encouraged everyone to “Drop Everything & Read.”
This date was chosen as it’s also the birthday of the beloved children’s author Beverly Cleary. One of America’s most successful authors, Cleary motivated children to read with 91 million copies of her books sold worldwide.
Studies have shown that reading offers many benefits including improved focus, memory and vocabulary, along with stress reduction and enhanced empathy. It’s a fun way to exercise the brain and stay mentally sharp.
Supporting the Naperville Woman’s Club in this effort with a promotional photo op is Naperville Mayor Scott Wherli, Naperville Public Library Executive Director Dave Della Terza, Naper Settlement President and CEO Rena Tamayo-Calabrese, and club president Nina Casey.
The club encourages families to read — read with a friend, read with your family — Just Read!
Founded in 1897, the Naperville Woman’s Club focuses its philanthropic activities on art, education and community service. The nonprofit organization is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international organization. For more information, visit napervillewomansclub.org.
