Winfield man charged in federal court with filing over 50 fraudulent tax returns
A Winfield man has been charged in federal court with preparing and filing more than 50 fraudulent tax returns for himself and others.
Cedrick Taylor, 40, was indicted in U.S. District Court in Chicago Tuesday and charged with 45 counts of willfully preparing a false tax return for others and six counts of filing false tax returns for himself during the calendar years of 2018 to 2023.
Authorities say Taylor fraudulently overstated and misrepresented tax credits, deductions and expenses to reduce tax liabilities and claim refund amounts to which neither he nor the other individuals were entitled.
Each of the 51 counts is punishable by up to three years in federal prison. His arraignment in federal court in Chicago has not yet been scheduled.
