Daily Herald photo contest winners for March 2025
The Daily Herald’s amateur photo contest winners for March capture quiet moments in the natural world.
Dave Davis of Inverness takes the top spot with this adorable photo of a brown bear cub looking curiously at the photographer during a July 2023 trip to Lake Clark National Park and Preserve in southwest Alaska. He writes, “Note the contrast in paw sizes.”
Matthew Davis of Elgin takes second place with this photo he captured of the wild sika deer, which are found around the city of Nara and the park, one of the oldest in Japan. He writes, “These friendly creatures blend in perfectly with the ancient stones and lush greens.”
In third place is a colorful photo by Lynne Solway of Buffalo Grove of a brilliant blue dragonfly perched atop a lotus blossom at the Naples Botanical Garden in Florida.
Coming in fourth is Patty Zawis’ photo of a squirrel catching some shut-eye. The Roselle resident writes, “We caught this squirrel taking a nap on our patio furniture. He must have had trouble adjusting from the time change.”
