Aurora building uninhabitable after Thursday night fire

A two-story building in Aurora containing a mechanic shop and a residence is uninhabitable after a Thursday night fire.

According to a press release from the Aurora Fire Department, firefighters responded to the 1000 block of Dearborn Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on April 17 to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the second-floor windows of the mixed-use building.

Firefighters used multiple hose lines to attack the blaze while searching to verify the building was unoccupied.

Five engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and three chief officers responded to the scene.

After the fire was brought under control, the building was deemed uninhabitable. Board-up services secured the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

One person who arrived on the scene was treated for minor smoke inhalation and released.
