Services for Wheeling police commander set for Wednesday
Public and private memorials for a veteran Wheeling police commander who died last week are set for Wednesday.
A private family service for Cmdr. Jim Borchardt, 49, of McHenry, will be held Wednesday morning. That will be followed by a noon procession for the family from Kolssak Funeral Home, 189 S. Milwaukee Ave. in Wheeling, to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 181 W. Dundee Road in Wheeling. The procession will pause in front of the police station, which is next to the church.
Public visitation will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church. A walk-through for police will follow at 3 p.m.
Visitation will continue until a 5:30 p.m. service at the church. Visitation will resume at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and conclude at 8:30 p.m.
Private cremation is planned.
Instead of flowers, people can make donations to the American Heart Association or the Wheeling Police Unity Foundation.
Borchardt, 49, was found dead in his car April 16, at a St. Charles conference center. He had experienced a medical emergency, authorities have said.
