Krishnamoorthi joins Little City Earth Day celebration on horticultural center anniversary
U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi joined a small crowd gathered Tuesday at the Little City campus in Palatine to celebrate Earth Day.
After briefly speaking, Krishnamoorthi, CEO of Little City Rich Bobby, and Fred Lebed, former Little City board chair, shoveled dirt during a ceremonial tree planting commemorating Dorothy Rose Horticulture Center’s 50th anniversary.
“When I see all of you, I don’t I see little city, but I see big hearts and little city is supported by people with big hearts, but it’s also supported by, in part, government funding,” said Krishnamoorthi.
Earth Day, first held on April 22, 1970, now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.
“Most important, we help people grow. The folks we support, grow, learn, build skills, build friendships with other people, build the skills to thrive in society, build the skills to be part of one’s community,” Bobby said.
Little City offers comprehensive programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as foster care and adoption services for all populations.
“The services here we provide are vital and so it’s important that we continue to advocate for those that we support and making sure that Medicaid stays intact,” Bobby said.
