Palatine Walmart among 11 Illinois stores slated for remodel
This year, Walmart is remodeling 650 stores across the U.S., including 11 stores in Illinois.
Walmart on Wednesday unveiled details of the planned store remodels in Illinois, including at 1555 N. Rand Road in Palatine, and new investments focused on enhancing the associate experience and community engagement.
“Our stores often serve as the heartbeat of the communities we operate in, and these remodels are a testament to our dedication to enhancing that role,” said Glenda Fleming Willis, Walmart senior vice president for the North Business Unit. “By investing in our stores and associates, we are not only improving the shopping experience but also reinforcing our commitment to being a vital part of the community’s fabric, helping to build a brighter future for all.”
Walmart already has invested more than $1 billion to upgrade stores throughout Illinois in the past five years.
The remodel involves updates throughout the store including bold signage and new displays to better showcase merchandise; expanded departments; expanded online pickup and delivery; and in the pharmacy area wider aisles, new private screening room and checkout areas offering more privacy.
In Illinois, Walmart has 177 retail units and seven supply chain facilities, and employs more than 59,500 associates. This month, the retail giant was named one of the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For and LinkedIn’s Top Companies for 2025.
The company awarded 30,600 hourly, front-line associates in Illinois a bonus in March. Last year, it promoted 2,988 associates in Illinois to jobs with more responsibility and higher pay and 4,147 part-time associates were promoted to full-time positions. Roughly 75% of Walmart front line managers started as hourly associates, according to a company news release.
Walmart also supports communities and those in need through local giving, company-paid associate volunteering, emergency relief efforts when disaster strikes and support for local manufacturing.
In Illinois, Walmart, the Walmart Foundation and Sam’s Club donated $44 million to local communities and spent $68.1 billion with Illinois suppliers to support 381,521 jobs statewide in fiscal year 2024. The company also donated 21 million pounds of food to local food banks in fiscal year 2025.
