Democratic state senators launch ‘For The People’ bus tour to address federal budget cuts
Buffalo Grove will be one of four stops on a bus tour state Democratic legislators are taking Sunday to raise awareness of federal budget cuts and explain how they are acting to safeguard programs and provide financial relief to working families.
The “For the People” Bus Tour will stop in Buffalo Grove between noon and 1 p.m. at Mike Rylko Community Park amphitheater, 1000 N. Buffalo Grove Road. State Sens. Adriane Johnson of Buffalo Grove, Mary Edly-Allen of Libertyville, and Mark Walker of Arlington Heights will meet constituents at the Buffalo Grove stop.
The legislators joining the tour say the proposed federal budget threatens state residents who utilize programs for health care access, mental health services, affordable housing, school resources and funding for local infrastructure.
“It’s critically important that residents hear directly from the senators and representatives,” Johnson said. She said it is especially important for them to hear about what lawmakers are doing about the budget process and ideas for revenue.
“Most importantly, we want them to know that we hear them, we see them, and we are working hard in Springfield on their behalf,” she said.
Each stop will offer an opportunity to engage with local leaders, ask questions and access resources.
“Illinois values entrepreneurship and will continue to work with companies to ensure this is a prosperous place to do business. We must protect our hardworking residents and speak out for the most vulnerable among us,” Edly-Allen said in a release.
Other stops will be at: SEIU Healthcare, 2229 S. Halsted St., 10-11 a.m.; Joliet Junior College Main Campus U Building Auditorium, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet, 3-3:45 p.m.; and Hairpin Arts Center, 2810 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, 4:45-5:45 p.m.
