Vernon Township holds playground grand opening May 10

Vernon Township has announced the grand opening of a new playground at William E. Peterson Park, 16652 N. Buffalo Grove Road in Prairie View, which replaces the beloved 20-year-old play area for children that was at the end of its useful life. It is designed so that children and families of all capabilities can enjoy this recreational spot. The celebratory event will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10.

State Sen. Adriane Johnson helped secure state funding for the project. The funds ensured that the township could provide a high quality, modern play area that was within budget constraints.

“This project represents our dedication to enhancing the quality of life for our residents by providing a safe, accessible and engaging space for everyone to enjoy,” said Vernon Township Supervisor Tim Kobler. “We’re excited to see our community members come together to make lasting memories as we all enjoy the coming nicer weather.”

The updated playground design incorporates a range of new accessibility and other features including:

• ADA-compliant Features: Platforms, guardrails and a wheelchair accessible ramp to enable those with disabilities to gain access to higher playground equipment.

• Creative Play Elements: Equipment containing puzzles and musical elements designed to inspire imaginative play.

• Climbing Fun: The Toad Stool Climber, River Rock Climber and Saddle Seat offer exciting challenges for children.

• Relaxation Spaces: Comfortable toad stool seats and a 15-foot Sunblox Umbrella Canopy provide shaded areas for rest.

• Exciting Slides: The Rumble & Roll Zip Slide offers fun for all ages.

Using durable materials, the new playground will require less maintenance, ensuring it serves the community for years to come. Vernon Township looks forward to celebrating this exciting milestone with the community!
