Naperville house uninhabitable after garage fire

A garage fire in Naperville caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage and left the attached house uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage.

No one was injured during the fire on the 100 block of Locust Court that displaced three adults and two children, according to Daniel Smith, Naperville Fire Department division chief of operations.

At 10:36 a.m. Monday, a Naperville resident called the city’s Emergency Communications Center to report a fire in the neighborhood. A second caller reported seeing the fire in an attached garage with people still inside the home.

Before firefighters arrived, a neighbor went to the home to alert the residents and helped them escape, according to Smith.

There was heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the house. However, the blaze was contained to the garage and garage roof and eaves.

Smith said the fire was extinguished by 11:23 a.m. Authorities are investigating the cause.
