Hanover Township to hold kite festival at Hoffman Estates forest preserve

Hanover Township’s second annual Kite Festival will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 10, at the Carl R. Hansen Woods Forest Preserve, on Route 59, south of Shoe Factory Road in Hoffman Estates.

The festival is in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honors the origin of kites.

A limited number of free kites will be available for distribution and assembly. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own kites. Brookfield Zoo Chicago’s Animal Ambassador Program will also be onsite with a surprise animal visitor.

Attendees can explore a display of local, natural artifacts courtesy of Crabtree Nature Center. Free popcorn, snow cones, and a bounce house will also be available.

The Kite Festival is co-sponsored by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison.
