Meet the candidate:

Congressional candidate and Long Grove Village President Maria Rodriguez will host a town-hall meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26, at a warehouse at 1600 N. Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa. Scheduled to talk about health care and other issues, Rodriguez will be joined by state Sen. Dan Duffy of Barrington. The meeting will start at noon and is open to the public. Rodriguez is seeking the Republican nomination in the 8th District, which includes parts of Cook, Lake and McHenry counties. Democrat Melissa Bean now holds the post.

Join emergency team:

The Fremont Township Community Emergency Response Team is accepting registrations for a six-week, entry-level training program. Classes begin Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. and continue for the next five Tuesday evenings. Classes are held at the Fremont Township administrative center, 22376 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein. Participants will learn how to help themselves and others during natural and man-made disasters. Classroom materials and basic safety equipment is provided free of charge. Test kits available:

Water and radon testing kits are now available by mail through the Lake County Health Department. Users of private wells are encouraged to have their drinking water tested for an analysis of bacteria, nitrate and radon. Cost of the water testing kit is $18, and radon kits are $12, which includes shipping and handling. Order at lakecountyil.gov or via e-mail to pratliff@lakecountyil.gov.
