Seals obviously not a local candidate

Since the 2006 Congressional elections, the 10th District has known that Dan Seals is not much of a homegrown candidate. After all, he still lives in the 9th District under the guise of not being "a millionaire" with enough money to move here. But after three years of doing nothing but run for office, you would think that his "grass roots" campaign would at least be based in the district. That's what he boasts about on his Web site, in interviews, and every other media outlet that will listen.

That claim, however, is far from reality. I pass his Deerfield office every day when I head to work, and I see busloads of Chicago-based union members stop there. He is importing staff and volunteers from his Democratic base downtown to make phone calls, canvass and speak on his behalf on the North Shore. He promises to represent us in Washington, but he doesn't even run a truly local campaign. It is a shame to see that kind of dirty politics infiltrate our area, and sadly for Seals, that sleight of hand doesn't fool me.
