Fire cause still unknown

The cause of a Friday night fire that displaced the residents of a Libertyville home remains under investigation. Firefighters responded to a single family home on the 2300 block of O'Plaine Road, north of Route 137 at about 8:30 p.m. One occupant and a fire investigator were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for a routine check but no major injuries were reported, according to the fire department. No damage estimate or suspected cause was available Sunday. The home was uninhabitable and the family is staying elsewhere.

Booze leads to busts

Lake County police departments recently worked with local groups and young adults on an alcohol-sale sting operation that led to 25 arrests throughout the county, authorities announced Friday. Tickets were issued at stores in Beach Park, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lake Zurich, Mundelein, Riverwoods, Winthrop Harbor, Zion and unincorporated Lake County.

Wall of Honor ready

Mundelein High School officials will dedicate a display honoring graduates and staffers who have served in the military next month. The Wall of Honor will replace a relatively small display that's been hanging in a mail hallway since 2005. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the school, 1350 W. Hawley St.

Ravine talk

The ravines bordering Lake Michigan from Glencoe to Waukegan will be the topic Nov. 2 at the general meeting of the Lake County Audubon Society. The 90-minute presentation will be at 7:30 p.m. at Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave. The ravines protect some of the region's rarest native habitat. Ken Klick, a senior restoration ecologist with the Lake County Forest Preserves, will provide an overview of the geologic forces that create our ravines, the unique plants and animals that flourish here, how urbanization affects these ravines and efforts to restore these habitats. Call (847) 362-5134.

Premise alert program

Vernon Hills residents are reminded families can voluntarily notify police and other first responders about special circumstances free of charge. A new law passed in August requires police and emergency services to retain confidential, voluntary information regarding the special needs of residents. The Premise Alert Program supports individuals living with disabilities and can assist responders. Information is kept in a database maintained by the agencies at the request of families, caregivers or individuals with disabilities or special needs. Call (847) 362-4434.
