500 women and girls in Aurora to receive empowering gifts from the community

The POWER Women employee resource group at Aurora City Hall hosted a monthlong Empower Bag Collection Drive during Women's History Month.

The goal was to collect 100 purses filled with toiletries and feminine hygiene products to gift to unhoused women.

Far surpassing its goal, the campaign brought in nearly 500 new and gently used purses, along with thousands of toiletries and feminine products.

The gifts will now be gifted to unhoused and low-income women through nine local nonprofit organizations that will receive the empower bags this week.

Staff members of the POWER Women employee resource group and male allies gathered for a special 'packing party' where they sorted, cleaned, and filled each bag with toiletries, feminine hygiene products, and special surprises, including handwritten notes of encouragement and motivation.

POWER Women is the first employee resource group at Aurora City Hall, and the Empower Bag Collection Drive was the group's first citywide community service project.
