Schaumburg Twp. library offers fun and advice

Virtual trips to Asia and 19th century Schaumburg Township and practical tips on surviving the economic downturn will be among this month's many programs at the Schaumburg Township District Library.

Events kick off this Saturday with a real trip to the annual arts and crafts fair in Galena. The library's motor coach will leave the library parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. The cost is $30.

On Monday, world traveler Bill Helmuth will take participants on a virtual visit through Asia and Uzbekistan from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Rasmussen South Room.

The library group, Great American Movies, will begin its season with a screening and discussion of "The Natural" at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 21

Also on Oct. 21, Dr. Sam Chin will begin a three-part series on "Chinese Medicine." The following parts will be Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 and each runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Financial health, or at least how to recover it, will be the theme of "Getting Through Tough Financial Times" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26. Katherine Reuter, extension educator for the University of Illinois, will show attendees how to keep a roof over their heads, deal with credit issues and set spending priorities.

Schaumburg Township residents may find the early history of their hometowns fascinating in the documentary "Schaumburg Roots: Beginnings Through Civil War" from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Rasmussen Room. Presented by Jay Mikes, the program is the product of three years of research. A limited number of copies of the video will be available for purchase. No registration is required.
