Movies under the stars

Lambs Farm will show family-friendly movies under the stars with themed activities every Friday night in July and August, weather permitting. The entrance fee of $4 per person includes activities, popcorn and soda, with additional food available for purchase. People are asked to bring their own blankets or folding chairs. The Farmyard also will be open during movie showings. Activities are related to the evening's theme and may include things such as karaoke, water balloon toss, dinosaur bone dig and much more. Run from the cops

The Vernon Hills Police Department's second annual "Run From the Cops" 5K race is set for 8:30 a.m. Sunday, July 19 in conjunction with the village's Summer Celebration festival. Participants can run or walk a scenic course. Proceeds go directly to Sentinels of Freedom, which provides funds to help injured members of the U.S. armed forces become self-sufficient after returning home. Free summer concert tonight

The Grayslake Public Library will host a free concert at 7 p.m. today, Monday, June 29, featuring the alt/rock band Morning Will Break. The facility is on Library Lane just west of Route 83 and Center Street. Morning Will Break has hooked up with Austin Cook of Indevo Records and is scheduled to released this year. The band began in Lake County. Library spokeswoman Merleanne Rampale said about 300 patrons with tables, chairs, food and blankets were on the lawn for last week's Harper College steel drum band.

Low-cost pet vaccination

A low-cost pet vaccination clinic will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11 on Church Street, just south of Cook Park, in Libertyville. For neutered or spayed pets, costs are $20 for one-year rabies and county tag; $25 for one-year rabies, tag and distemper; $10 for distemper only; and, $15 for microchip. Vaccine costs are higher for pets not spayed or neutered. Pets must be at least four years old and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Dogs must be leashed and cats placed in carriers. Trails damaged by rain:

Some Lake County Forest Preserve District trails have been damaged by recent rains and flooding and may be closed until the areas can be cleaned up or repaired. A complete list was not available. To check on the condition of a trail, visit lcfpd.org or call (847) 367-6640.

Renowned author in Lincolnshire:

Best-selling author Jennifer Weiner ("In Her Shoes", "Good in Bed") will be at Stevenson High School's Performing Arts Center to discuss her new book, personal experiences and her take on women's search for a sense of self from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 20.
