Schick Road Bridge closure:

Drivers who use eastbound Schick Road in Bartlett should prepare for detours over the next three months, as the Schick Road bridge will be closed for construction next week. The bridge, at South Bartlett and Gerber roads, could be closed as early as Monday. Construction is expected to last three months, finishing in July. Detour signs will be posted, however the detour route won't be made til the end of the week. Work includes removing and repairing the pavement on the east and west sides of the bridge and reinforcing bridge piers. Call the Bartlett Public Works Department at (630) 837-0811 with questions.

Ball de Fleur tickets on sale:

The deadline is today, April 29, to buy tickets for the Alexian Brothers Foundation's 23rd annual Ball de Fleur, which is being held Saturday, May 2 inside Brookfield Zoo. More than 700 people have already signed up to attend the black-tie optional gala, which begins at 6 p.m. and includes a gourmet five-course meal, live and silent auctions, and dancing until midnight. Tickets are $300 and available at (847) 385-7304. Funds raised from the gala will go toward the state-of-the-art Alexian Brothers Children's Hospital in Hoffman Estates and new bed tower in Elk Grove Village that will feature coordinated access to outpatient services and private hospital rooms.

Library's lot to be repaired:

The west side of the Schaumburg Township District Library parking lot at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg will be closed for repairs and repaving from Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15. Patrons may still use the north and south areas of the parking lot during this time, and the library will continue to be open during its normal hours. The east and west entrances to the library will remain open, as the sidewalks leading to those entrances won't be affected by the repaving of the lot.

Multicultural event Saturday:

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54's Bilingual Department and the Schaumburg Park District will present "A Garden of Diversity: Our Multicultural Heritage" from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at Frost Junior High School, 320 W. Wise Road in Schaumburg. This new multicultural event is free and open to the public. There will be student and professional live performances, five different food vendors from around the globe, free games, craft making and representation from the community by such organizations as the Schaumburg Police Department, Scholastic Books, Harper College, Schaumburg High School, the Prairie Center for the Arts, the Schaumburg Park District and District 54.

Parents with an interest in opening their home to an international high school student are invited to attend an informational session on the Rotary Youth Exchange program at 6:30 p.m. today, April 29, in the Adult Education Room of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg. The session, sponsored by Rotary of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates, discusses the youth exchange program both from the perspective of host families and from international students now staying with area families. Township honors agencies:

Palatine Township on Monday presented the first-ever Trustee David P. Miller awards to recognize individuals and groups that social services programming. The recipients were Clearbrook, which serves people with developmental disabilities, and Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, which provides hospice care to anyone regardless of their ability to pay. Miller was a longtime trustee who chaired the township's Human Needs committee, which allocates township funding to social service agencies. He moved out of state and stepped down from his post in 2007. Clearbrook and Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, both nonprofit organizations, received $1,000 and commemorative plaques.
